On the 23rd of August last Caroline, Kathy and I attended the
innovative Bike Tank - "a think tank that you cycle to" for a
design workshop in a large Chippendale warehouse adjacent to the
old Carlton Brewery site.
"BikeTank" is a weekly intensive workshop where designers,
emerging design entrepreneurs and leading thinkers are asked to
explore new design thinking methods for cities. You can also
tuck in to some decent free coffee and pastries and let your bike
get a well-earned pumping (if you ask nicely).
The word "intensive" is not used lightly here as we were split
up into groups and given a topic to discuss for 25 minutes with a
view to making a proposal and presenting to everybody present. This
week's topic had to do with new ways of providing support for the
homeless within the city. A diverse range of ideas were proposed by
our group and then presented by myself to the eager audience. It
was an interesting exercise to take part in and fascinating to see
the range of opinions on display. The coffee and pastries did not
disappoint.
